Pharmacy OneSource Announces Free Webinar on Successes of C. Diff Reduction

Implementing Strategies to Prevent Hospital-Associated Infections

BELLEVUE, WA, October 22, 2011 (Press-News.org) Wolters Kluwer Health announced today that Pharmacy OneSource, software-as-a-service provider of Sentri7, a clinical surveillance, documentation and reporting tool, is hosting a complimentary webinar with Edward Eiland, PharmD, MBA, BCPS (AQ-ID), on "Successes of a Clostridium difficile Infection (CDI) Reduction Team."

Clostridium difficile is a challenging organism to treat and its associated pathogenicity leads to increased morbidity and mortality. A multidisciplinary quality team designated as the Clostridium difficile Infection (CDI) Reduction Team was initiated at Huntsville Hospital as part of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program. The purpose of the CDI Reduction Team is to implement strategies referred to as the CDI Clinical Pathway to reduce the occurrence of Clostridium difficile associated diarrhea throughout the hospital and community. Eiland will review Huntsville Hospital's implementation of a pathway that addresses microbiology lab diagnostics, isolation procedures, treatment recommendations, and monitoring parameters.

About the Presenter: Edward Eiland, PharmD, MBA, BCPS (AQ-ID), is the Clinical Practice and Business Supervisor in the Department of Pharmacy at Huntsville Hospital System in Huntsville, AL. He also serves as an Affiliate Clinical Assistant Professor with Auburn University Harrison School of Pharmacy in Auburn, AL. He is associated with various specialty areas within the health system including Infectious Diseases and Critical Care. He serves as Secretary of the Anti-Infective Subcommittee and manages the Antimicrobial Management Team. Also, he received an ASHP Best Practices Award for his studies in Clostridium difficile infections.

Ed has published his findings and observations in: The Annals of Pharmacotherapy, Journal of Pathology, SRX Medicine, Infectious Diseases in Clinical Practice, Journal of Pharmacy Practice, Journal of the American Pharmacy Association, Clinical Infectious Diseases, American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy, American Journal of Medicine, and the Journal of Pharmacy Technology.
