As it dates back to the 13th century, the Festa de l'Estendard is one of the oldest secular holidays on the continent.

The celebrations traditionally include a festive street procession, followed by a special thanksgiving mass at Palma's famous La Seu Cathedral.

A speech is given at the city hall and floral offerings are placed at the statue of James I in the Plaza de Espana.
