Bay Area Hood Cleaning Company Shares Smoke Alarm & Fire Facts for National Fire Prevention Week

American Professional Services (APS-Hoods) wants homeowners and business owners to be aware of the dangers of fires, and how smoke alarms can prevent injury and death.

2010-09-23
SAN FRANCISCO, CA, September 23, 2010 (Press-News.org) National Fire Prevention Week is October 3-9 the Bay Area hood cleaning specialists at American Professional Services (APS-Hoods) are sharing a list of facts about fire and smoke alarms in honor of the observance.

The National Fire Protection Association sponsors National Fire Prevention Week each year by making educational information available to teachers, families and children, said Massoud Farazandeh, CEO of APS-Hoods, which specializes in Bay Area hood installation projects in restaurants and commercial kitchens.

Even though most of the information is geared toward residential fire safety, it is important for businesses to stay informed regarding fire prevention tips, Farazandeh said. Following is some NFPA information on the topic according to 2008 figures, which are the most current figures available.

Fire Facts
- Cooking is the No. 1 cause of home fires and injuries.
- Heating is the second most common cause of fire-related fatalities, home fires and fire injuries.
- Electrical failures or malfunctions play a role in about 50,000 reported fires annually.
- Smoking is the leading cause of fire deaths.
- Fire departments throughout the U.S. responded to 386,500 house fires in 2008, which is roughly one house fire every 82 seconds.
- House fires injured 13,160 people and killed 2,755.

Smoke Alarm Facts
- Approximately 3,000 people die in house fires each year in the United States.
- Smoke alarms can reduce the risk of dying in a fire by half.
- Between 2003 and 2006, about two-thirds of home fire deaths were caused by fires in homes that didn't have working smoke alarms.
- A majority of smoke alarms found in reported fires with fire deaths were powered by battery only.
- In fires considered large enough to activate a smoke alarm, hard-wired alarms operated 91 percent of the time, while battery-powered smoke alarms operated only 75 percent of the time.

"Although commercial kitchens and restaurants are our specialty and they fall under different fire safety guidelines than residential structures, we still see far too many fires that could have been prevented in these businesses," said Farazandeh, a Bay Area hood sale professional.

The fires often are the result of a restaurant's failure to maintain a routine kitchen range exhaust hood cleaning schedule to keep grease buildup- which can fuel a fire- from building up in hoods, ducts and fans.

"When someone inquires about our Bay Area hood sales services, we always inform them of our hood cleaning services, as well," Farazandeh said. "Ultimately, a quality kitchen hood means nothing if it is not cleaned properly."

You don't have to have an attorney to file anything. You always have the option of representing yourself in any matter. Bankruptcy lawyers usually charge a flat fee starting in the neighborhood of $1,800 and up. When you are considering bankruptcy, this sounds like a huge fee and makes the "do-it-yourself" route look more attractive, but when you consider that your entire financial future is at ...
