Hip Hop Duo Partners With Local Businesses to Fight Global Water Scarcity

Hip Hop Duo Use Musical Talents to Bring About Social Change

2011-12-29
PHILADELPHIA, PA, December 29, 2011 (Press-News.org) This holiday season local musicians Drematic and Y?Arcka are trying to help millions in developing nations gain access to clean water with their Cups For A Cause campaign, a fundraiser in which Philadelphia area coffee shops donate a portion of their day's proceeds to help build fresh water wells in nations where many lack access to clean water. The campaign is a part of the duo's charity, Water Is Humanity, which seeks to raise funds to build 100 fresh water wells in nations such as Africa, South America, Asia and the Caribbean.

With tens of thousands of people in the developing world dying each day because of a lack of clean drinking water, Drematic and Y?Arcka started their initiative to not only educate the community on the issue, but to also raise funds to provide practical solutions for the problem.

"The Cups for A Cause campaign is a great initiative to not only educate local Philadelphians about the global water scarcity crisis, but also give them a feasible way to make a difference," Producer Y?Arcka said.

In addition to the Cups for A Cause campaign, the hip hop duo is donating 100 percent of the funds from their new record, Water, toward achieving this goal. Water is readily available for download at waterishumanity.bandcamp.com. Individuals can make donations at waterishumanity.com.

"I've always taken the art form seriously, but the realization that I could actually play an active role in making things better made me reassess my art. That's when things got real," recording artist, Drematic said.

The album, Water, includes 12 tracks all thematically related to the concept of water and the importance of clean water availability worldwide.

The album is broken into two categories: the first six tracks serve as the "unfiltered" portion, with the remaining songs representing "purified" water. The "unfiltered" category represents the more raw side of the project, with songs that will resonate deeply with hip hop fans. The
"purified" tracks are more refined and free from profanity, serving both substantive and harmonious tracks with equally impressive production and breadth of scope.

In sum, recording artist Drematic and producer Y?Arcka strive to present listeners with an essential piece of music that both educates and provides listening pleasure by exposing music fans to some of the issues surrounding access to and the availability of clean water worldwide. Just like the substance that inspired the project; the purpose, functionality and presentation of Water is rife with all of the complexities that are synonymous with being a citizen of the world. Indeed, "water is humanity." It is our collective life blood. With this in mind, Drematic
and Y?Arcka hope that the sounds, words, thoughts and interpretations leave the listeners intrigued, engaged, and ultimately, refreshed. Drink up.
