The disclosure scheme, more commonly known as "Sarah's Law", has undergone a successful trial in Cambridgeshire, Cleveland, Hampshire and Warwickshire and is to be rolled out across other counties over the autumn of 2010 and spring 2011. It's simply beyond the means of the majority of families, and so the expansion of this disclosure scheme can only be a positive step towards the empowerment of parents and the better protection of children."

A disclosure scheme already exists in America, known as "Megan's Law", although more information is disclosed such as pictures of the offenders and individuals are free to pass on information to others in their community. "I have taught in America and make frequent trips to visit American clients, and there have been no incidences of vigilantism, the fear of which delayed the introduction of the scheme in the UK," Adam commented. "Instead, communities are safer and parents are able to protect their children through knowledge rather than suspicion. Any change in the law that empowers parents in this way, and makes it easier for professional groups with regular child contact to obtain information that isn't always covered by an ECRB check is most welcome," Adam concluded.
