Mug Shot Helps Earn Mirus Group MDA Award

A mug shot of an executive at Mirus Group, an ad agency and graphic design firm in the Rochester, NY area, helped raise money for the MDA and earned the company a Golden Handcuff Award.

2012-01-11
PITTSFORD, NY, January 11, 2012 (Press-News.org) Mirus Group, a marketing communications and advertising agency located just outside of Rochester, NY, partially attributes a humorous mug shot of Matt Garrity, partner at the company, for the success of a recent Muscular Dystrophy Association Lock-Up fund raising event in Pittsford, NY and the Golden Handcuff Award that Garrity received from the organization in December of 2011.

With a successful year in business, partners Matt Garrity and Nick Woyciesjes, wanted Mirus Group contribute to a charity that helps families and children who need a helping hand. When the call came in from the MDA asking Mirus Group to take part in their Pittsford, NY lock-up event, Matt didn't hesitate to volunteer. Garrity stated, "Now that Nick and I each have children and know how challenging it is to raise them, we couldn't even imagine how difficult it would be as parents of kids with special needs—the MDA event seemed like a great way to raise money and help these families."

Once the decision was made to take part in the lock-up event, the entire Mirus Group team pitched in to help. "We needed to come up with a way to capture people's attention, so that they would respond and donate. So Carl Huber, one of our graphic designers, created a mug shot of me, which was not the most attractive photo I've ever taken—and it worked," Garrity said.

Nick Woyciesjes said, "Being a marketing communications group with talented designers and illustrators, we utilized many of the services that we offer our clients to create Matt's promotional mug shot—graphic design, photography, illustration and social media promotion, which helped with our fund raising efforts. Humor works."

Matt was "locked up" at a local Pittsford, NY restaurant, where he made numerous phone calls to friends, family, and clients and raised a total of $1,710. Garrity said, "I'm sure that our creative and social media efforts helped bring awareness to the event, and we hope to participate again next year."
