HEATHROW, FL, February 08, 2012 (Press-News.org) Remington College recently wrapped up its 3 Lives blood drive campaign for 2011. This year's effort produced a total of 2,750 pints of blood collected on Remington College campuses around the country.
The Remington College 3 Lives campaign is an effort to increase the number of minority blood donors in Remington College campus communities. The program is done with the help of two national partners, America's Blood Centers and the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America (SCDAA).
The program is called 3 Lives because three lives may be saved for every one pint of blood donated. Remington College has collected more than 5,400 pints of blood since it began the 3 Lives campaign.
According to the SCDAA, African American donors provide blood with unique antigens that are vital for people battling sickle cell and other life-threatening diseases. Many sickle cell patients require frequent blood transfusions and it's best for them to receive blood that closely matches their own.
In March, America's Blood Centers selected Remington College as the first recipient for its National Partner of the Year Award.
"We're very proud of our 3 Lives results in 2011 and want to thank our students, staff and community members who donated blood this year," said Jack Forrest, Remington College President and CEO. "Their efforts saved lives and helped thousands of people who needed blood transfusions. We look forward to building on the success of our campaign in 2012."
