HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA, February 08, 2012 (Press-News.org) Undertow is the alter-ego of Ron Chesher, a central Virginia native who had a musical epiphany in 2010. He decided to become a musician - it is his passion after all. But Ron was not exactly a skilled musician just yet. From scratch he learned how to operate instruments and equipment for two months, and he figured out his musical direction - he was to be Undertow from now on.
Undertow does not wish to be labeled and chained to any sound or genre. As Undertow, he wants to just be. Here's what he does: he couples a veritable onslaught of sound and rhythm with an unmistakable rhyming flow that can almost be taken for spoken word. No hooks, choruses, or bridges. As Undertow, he is able to tell vivid stories and convey complex emotions. This is some uncategorized music right here, and that is how Undertow likes it.
Undertow grew up listening to 70s and 80s rock, then as a teen he was into hip-hop, and in 2000, things changed. My spectrum widened more into metal, trash, alt rock, and post grunge. Ever since then, my tastes continue to venture into different areas that come closer and closer to the proverbial full circle, says Undertow. He then found himself drawn to the music of Radiohead's Thom Yorke, Scooter Ward, Chris Volz, and Vince Gill - artists who tell stories, invoke thought, and entice emotions.
And interestingly enough, although Undertow wants to produce his own music and share it to the public, his end game is unconventional, if not, unexpected. Undertow explains, As with most (if not all) artists, I have several goals in mind for this whole adventure. Make some money? Yeah. Possible recording deal? Why not? Become notable and respected for my craft? Sure. But my primary focus is simply the music. I aim to make music in the vein of what moves me and what I hope will move and affect others.
That is what Undertow is currently doing and more. He is also a staunch supporter of collaborations and encourages other artists out there to do mashups with him. Undertow understands the value of getting together to create great music. Hit him up when you get a chance.
Have a leap of faith and give Undertow a good listen. Download his music at iTunes, distributed by JMD Records and INgrooves, a partner of Universal Music Group.
