WHEAT RIDGE, CO, March 12, 2012 (Press-News.org) The 2012 annual conference for the American Society for Indexing (ASI), "Index Appreciation Days," will take place in San Diego, California, April 19-21. The event will feature information about indexing in the digital publishing era, as well as an array of workshops and seminars for all skill levels.
You do not need to be a member of ASI to attend. In addition to indexers, the conference is also designed for librarians, abstractors, editors, publishers, database producers, data searchers, product developers, technical writers, academic professionals, researchers, readers, and others concerned with indexing. Prospective indexers are encouraged to attend to further their understanding of indexing, and chat one-on-one with experts in the field.
Specifically, ASI's Digital Trends Task Force will be providing an update on e-books, with particular emphasis on the standards being developed by the Indexes Working Group of the International Digital Publishing Forum. Attendees will also be able to review what happens in the process of searching in e-books, and three methods of offering readers additional tools to help them navigate content. There will even be an e-reader device "petting zoo," so that attendees can experience the current state of indexed non-fiction on e-readers, look at Amazon's X-ray search interface, and play with books on an iPad.
The conference is at the Bahia Resort Hotel, a full-service hotel located on Mission Bay. The hotel is within two blocks of the beautiful and active Mission Beach. San Diego offers a perfect destination to combine business and pleasure.
The American Society for Indexing is a national association founded in 1968 to promote excellence in indexing and to increase awareness of the value of well-written, well-designed indexes. Further information about ASI and the conference is available at http://www.asindexing.org.
