SNC2 INK Presents A.L.I.G.N. for Good: Growing Businesses and Eliminating Adult Illiteracy

SNC2 INK, The Business of Writing advocates for adult literacy programs throughout the country through business networking events.

2012-03-29
LOS ANGELES, CA, March 29, 2012 (Press-News.org) SNC2 INK, The Business of Writing presents A.L.I.G.N. for Good (Artists, Leaders, Innovators, Growth, Network) in Los Angeles on Monday, April 2, 2012. Los Angeles is the first stop on the calendar for the nationwide event tour for a cause. The two hour networking forum will allow solo-entrepreneurs, artists, and other creative service professionals the ability to showcase talents and services to potential clients in a relaxed and inviting setting. In addition to the benefit of growing their individual networks, attendees will also contribute to eliminating adult illiteracy with a percentage of the proceeds from the event going to benefit LiteracyAction.org. A.L.I.G.N. Los Angeles will be held at Rush Street, 9546 Washington Blvd. Culver City, CA 90232, April 2, 2012 from 6:30-8:30pm. Complimentary beer and wine will be provided from 6:30pm-7:00pm to registered attendees courtesy of SNC2 INK.

A.L.I.G.N. for Good is being hosted by Author C. Nzingha Smith, Principal Writer and Founder of SNC2 INK, The Business of Writing. Smith organized the event with the goal to provide an opportunity for creative service professionals to generate business leads, connect, share resources and grow independent business. The event is also an avenue Smith is using to educate attendees on adult literacy programs and to raise money to eliminate the issue by partnering with organizations that provide services to functionally illiterate adults, an issue close to home for Smith. "In college, I learned my grandfather couldn't write. Every month he would send me a money order along with a scribbled note saying I love you." Only a few generations later, Smith is now aware that many adults like her grandfather have gone through life able to get by, but not able to thrive because they lack the fundamental skills of reading and writing.

"U.S. Literacy levels are one of the lowest among developed countries," according to information provided by LiteracyAction.org. The organization is committed to serving more than 600 students each year, with free classroom instruction and job readiness services for adults with low literacy skills. In the U.S., 63 million adults — 29 percent of the country's adult population —over age 16 don't read well enough to understand a newspaper story written at the eighth grade level. Like many other nonprofits, Literacy Action has been facing a significant increase in demand for services over the last two years. A.L.I.G.N. for Good is committed to providing an avenue of awareness for the much needed program which will in turn help to turn around the economic condition of our country by better preparing and training its work force.
