STREETSBORO, OH, April 05, 2012 (Press-News.org) "It all started on a cold November day in 1984 at 2:13 PM," says Sheldon Goodman, Founder and President of Spectrum. "I was unexpectedly released from my job of Vice President of a household and gift products company. With three children below the age of five, no severance pay or health benefits, and little money in the bank, panic quickly set in."
During his successful search for a steady job, Goodman decided he had the work ethic, determination and luck to start a housewares company. All he needed was money. Goodman spent the next nine months developing, refining and promoting his business plan which was eventually sold to an investor. In August of 1985, Goodman resigned from his interim job and began developing a product line, developing an accounting/information processing system, building a sales force and establishing a distribution facility. After working 80 hours a week for several months, he determined that Spectrum was ready for its introduction at Chicago's International Housewares Show in early 1987.
Within five years, Goodman was selected as the "Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year" in the northeastern Ohio region by Inc. Magazine and Ernst and Young. Since then, Spectrum has been selected as an "Outstanding Growth Company" from the Cleveland Weatherhead 100 and received the "Business Growth Award" multiple times from the Cascade Capital Corporation. Goodman is currently on the board of the International Housewares Association and serves on the Government Affairs and Business Solution Committees.
Today, Spectrum is one of the leading design and manufacturing firms in the housewares industry. "Over the last 25 years, Spectrum has remained strong by committing itself to providing consumers, retailers and commercial entities with innovative storage and organization solutions while offering the best in service, quality and value," says Goodman. "I have enjoyed the friendships I have made over the years, but my real pride and joy comes from the fact my son has joined the company." Aaron Goodman has been with Spectrum since 2009 and currently serves as the CFO and International Sales Manager. "I can only hope Spectrum will bring at least 25 more years of success to the industry."
Operating out of a 133,000 square foot distribution center, Spectrum takes pride in their timely shipments and high-quality, innovative products. With over 500 design patents and nearly 700 unique products, Spectrum continues to introduce unique and inspired products to meet the changing tastes and needs of customers throughout the world; and it shows. Their products are sold in over 40 countries. Spectrum has recently experienced tremendous growth in new product categories. Coffee pod organizers, tabletop baskets and bowls, and tiered serveware are just some of the new products Spectrum has recently introduced to the retail and hospitality industries.
Spectrum Diversified Designs, Inc. manufactures over 800 storage and organization products for the home, with its headquarters located in Streetsboro, Ohio. For over 25 years, with over 500 patents, Spectrum has been a leader in providing high quality, competitively priced, innovative products to retailers and consumers throughout the world.
