Branch Water Tavern Introduces "Drinking With Evan Turner," A Cocktail Series

Turner Aims to Raise the Bar in Educating Houstonians on Classic Cocktails and More

2010-09-28
HOUSTON, TX, September 28, 2010 (Press-News.org) You've heard about their mouthwatering burgers, the housemade charcuterie and chic lodge atmosphere. Now Branch Water Tavern introduces yet another reason to pay a visit to one of Houston's hottest restaurants and belly up to the bar—their new monthly cocktail classes, "Drinking with Evan Turner." Turner, recently nominated as "Best MIxologist" in the upcomlng Houston Culinary Awards, will serve as the wildly entertaining chemistry teacher who holds court on the secret formulas behind his killer cocktails during his sip-and-learn sessions. The first class, fittingly focusing on whiskey, gets underway October 9.

"Houstonians are stretching and growing when it comes to beer, wine, cocktails and spirits," says Turner. "They will try anything. Texans are not a 'live safe and quiet' bunch. They like adventure, especially in their wines and spirits. This class is not at all for the weak and timid," he says.

School's in session the second Saturday of each month, 1-3 pm, for just $35. Executive Chef David Grossman will serve light bites during demos and drink samplings.

Who said learning wasn't fun? Not us.

Here's the syllabus:

• October 9 - All American Whiskeys
• November 13 - Holiday Cocktails for Easy Entertaining
• December 11 - Making Spirits Bright (Creating infusions for holiday gift giving)
• January 8 - Prohibition Cocktails...the Classics
• February 12 - Drinks to Snuggle With (Hot toddies, warm punches, etc.)
• March 12 - Springtime Tipples

Prior to joining Branch Water Tavern, Turner served as beverage director at Gravitas, sommelier at *17 and The Strip House in downtown Houston, general manager at The Tasting Room at River Oaks, and wine director at Bank by Jean-George.
Branch Water Tavern is located at 510 Shepherd in Houston, TX. For more information about Turner's cocktail classes, or to reserve your space in class, call 713-863-7777.
