FULLERTON, CA, April 13, 2012 (Press-News.org) The Family Business Council (FBC), part of CSUF's Mihaylo College of Business and Economics, today announced four new members. Recognized as the premier educational resource for family businesses in Southern California, the Family Business Council equips multi-generational leaders with the tools necessary to overcome obstacles and confront issues to enable familial companies to grow and prosper.
A robust network of multi-generational family firms, the FBC is proud to add the following second-generation family businesses to its network:
• Advance Beauty College
• Mackenzie Corporation
• Shepard Brothers
• Susan's Healthy Gourmet
"These family entities represent the ideal model of companies and families who work well together and are in the process of transitioning from one generation to the next," says Family Business Council Executive Director Ed Hart.
"We are excited to meet like-minded families that deeply care about their business and have a strong desire to implement the changes necessary to grow," says Tam Nguyen, President of Advance Beauty College in Garden Grove. He, along with his sister Linh, are the second-generation to run the accredited private vocational school that offers courses in makeup artistry, cosmetology, cosmetology instruction, holistic health care, manicuring, and massage therapy.
Joining the Nguyens are twin sisters, Jennifer Dinnen and Katie Rucker of the MacKenzie Corporation, located in Irvine. Providing clients with the analytics needed for strategic marketing, these siblings are looking forward to collaborating with other family firms. "At our very first meeting I felt a sense of genuine excitement and enthusiasm from the group. The Family Business Council seems like a place where everyone truly wants each other to succeed and will do whatever it takes to help them accomplish that," says Dinnen who along with her sister is taking the reins from their father who founded the company.
Shepard Brothers., Inc. of La Habra, the premier supplier of custom specialty chemicals for cleaning and sanitation is also joining nearly 50 other businesses that comprise the Council. "As a second-generation family business rapidly approaching the time when the next generation will start taking over, we saw the FBC as the ideal resource to enable a seamless transition," explains CEO Ron Shepard. .
Incorporating nutrition into the fold, Susan's Healthy Gourmet, Xan Confections and LifeSpring Nutrition headquartered in Irvine, is stepping onboard as well. "We are always looking for ways to improve ourselves as leaders and employers. I have learned over time the best way to grow is to find like-minded people in similar situations and share our experiences with each other," said President Kerry Johnson Anthony. Serving alongside her mother, Founder and CEO Susan Johnson, Anthony oversees the operations of fresh, nutritionally balanced, and calorie-controlled meals that are individually prepared and packaged to order.
