Cary Family Dental Raises Over $6,000 for Wake County Domestic Violence Prevention Program

Cary-based dental practice raises funds through Crown Council's annual Smiles for Life campaign

2010-09-29
CARY, NC, September 29, 2010 (Press-News.org) Dr. Allan Acton and Cary Family Dental recently hosted a check presentation ceremony to representatives of Interact, a private, nonprofit United Way agency that provides safety, support, and awareness to victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. This year, Cary Family Dental, through their participation in the Crown Council's annual Smiles for Life campaign, donated $6,276 to the agency. Last year, the dental practice donated $9,493, bringing their two-year total to over $15,000.

During the four-month campaign, Crown Council members offer teeth whitening services at a significantly reduced price. Through a unique partnership with legendary entertainer Garth Brooks and his Teammates For Kids Foundation, Smiles for Life guarantees that half of the money raised by Crown Council members goes to children's charities in communities across North America.

"The teeth whitening procedure is quick and painless, with excellent results," explains Dr. Acton, a Crown Council dentist. "Most importantly, a few minutes in the chair can make an incredible impact on someone right here in Wake County who desperately needs our help and support."

Interact was formed in the 1980's by the merger of three Wake County agencies: Rape Crisis Center, Women's Aid, and Child Abuse Prevention Services. The resulting agency was known as The Family Violence and Prevention Center, Inc. and became known as Interact in 1984. Interact is the only confidential domestic violence prevention program serving Wake County's twelve municipalities and fulfills this mission through the support of its volunteers and community. Interact Executive Director, Adam Hartzell, is thankful for the generosity shown by Dr. Acton and his team and says that any amount received will be appreciated.

"We're grateful for the support of businesses like Cary Family Dental," says Hartzell. "A majority of our funds are received through donations, which is why contributions from companies and individuals are vital in ensuring that we remain a resource for those greatly in need."

The Smiles for Life Foundation is the children's charity organization of the Crown Council, an organization of leading-edge dentists throughout North America. The Crown Council's Smiles for Life Foundation has raised more than $22 million since 1998 and have benefited nearly 500 children's charities across North America. Recently, Cary Family Dental was recognized by the Crown Council who ranked the practice in the Top 5 Percent of national Smiles for Life fundraising participants. Over the last five year, Cary Family Dental has raised over $65,000 to benefit children's charities across North America.
