To earn a spot at the World Cup, Cooley first had to achieve one of the top scores in an online qualifying test, which earned him a Level III Kia Master Technician status. After achieving the above, Cooley competed in a field of 16 of the best technicians from around the country at the 2012 Kia Skill National Cup at Kia's corporate headquarters in Irvine, CA. He took first place in the Western Division and second place overall, earning him a coveted spot representing the United States at the World Cup.
