Crystal Suazo Receives 40 Under 40 Leadership Award

RALEIGH, NC, May 24, 2012 (Press-News.org) David R. Rhode, managing partner of Vaco Raleigh, LLC (http://www.vaco.com), an executive placement and consulting firm, has announced that Crystal Suazo, CPA and partner of the firm, has received the Triangle Business Journal's 40 Under 40 Leadership Award, which recognizes up-and-coming leaders under the age of 40 who are making a difference in the community. Award recipients are selected based on business accomplishments, community involvement and significant career milestones. Suazo received the award at a luncheon on May 17 at Prestonwood Country Club in Cary, N.C.

At Vaco Raleigh, Suazo is a part of the core management team that oversees the organization's day-to-day business operations in addition to playing an integral role in business development and strategic planning for the firm.

Suazo serves as co-chair of the Annual Gingerbread Benefit. Under her leadership in 2010, the 8th annual Gingerbread Benefit event nearly doubled in funds raised, increasing from $52,000 in 2009 to $100,000 in 2010. Attendance for the event also increased from 127 in 2009 to 476 in 2010.

Suazo's professional affiliations include the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants (NCACPA), the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce's EDGE4 campaign and the Triangle chapter of the American Society of Women Accountants (ASWA). Suazo is also a part of the Leadership Circle for the United Way of the Triangle and was recognized as one of the Triangle's top 25 businesswomen in 2008 with Triangle Business Journal's prestigious Women in Business Award for her exemplary leadership skills in the mentoring category.

- Suazo earned her Bachelor of Science (Cum Laude) with a major in accounting and minor in trust management from Campbell University. She began her career working in the manufacturing industry focusing on cost accounting and inventory control. In 1999, she entered the field of public accounting and worked for a local firm handling tax, trust and estate compliance and business development. Her public accounting experience also included performing the audit function for nonprofit clients, as well as tax compliance and financial planning.
