HEERLEN, THE NETHERLANDS, June 14, 2012 (Press-News.org) Cadac Organice, a Microsoft Gold ISV Partner and developer of the Cadac Organice Suite (SharePoint-based solutions for Engineering Document Management and Control) has issued a case study about owner operators and external partners collaborating on CAD drawings in Microsoft SharePoint.
Owner Operators of capital assets in the oil and gas, energy, process and mining industry often outsource engineering and design work to external partners. The main reason for this is that these activities are not considered core business, and developing and maintaining plants and installations is specialized work.
Collaborating on CAD drawings between owner operators and external partners should be seamless. It is not only important that design work is done in time so production can start quickly or downtime is minimized, it is also important that accurate as-built documentation is handed over at the end of a project for HSE regulations and future maintenance. This requires that document exchange between owner operators and external partners is done according to predefined and auditable procedures.
Cadac Organice has developed a custom Microsoft SharePoint configuration to support owner operators and external partners collaborating on CAD drawings. The configuration allows owner operators to issue CAD drawings for revision as well as document numbers for new CAD drawings through transmittal management. CAD drawings and documents that are submitted by external partners are checked for the right and proper metadata through workflow management to ensure integrity of information.
The SharePoint-based solution to support owner operators and external partners collaborating on CAD drawings has been described by Cadac Organice in a case study. The case study is available for download from http://www.organice.com.
