CRIME ALERT: Secure Watch Provides Expert Service to Homeowners to Avoid False Alarms

Those with home security systems in Memphis may be facing potentially harsher laws that aim to penalize those who have multiple accounts of false alarms. Secure Watch ADT addresses the impact of false alarms and works to reduce those numbers.

2012-06-29
NEW YORK, NY, June 29, 2012 (Press-News.org) Law enforcement officials in Memphis, Tennessee are raising concern about the number of false alarms that occur within their jurisdiction. According to a recent news story from WMC-TV, these incidents can cause unnecessary concern among communities and law enforcement. The article also states that repeat false alarms are subject to penalty from the law. While current regulations exist, city officials are working to give the punishment less flexibility. Secure Watch, an authorized ADT dealer, specializes in wireless home security systems and validates these concerns.

According to the article, residents in Shelby County are required to register their alarm systems with a one-time fee of $30; renewal costs run $5 per year. While these costs may seem unnecessary to local homeowners, Wyatt Bunker, Shelby County Commissioner says false alarm incidents are a costly burden on county resources. Bunker states, "It ties up a tremendous amount of resources. Not only the sheriff's department, but the city operates under the same regulations. They're a part of the metro alarm offices as well."

However, according to Bunker, the current laws are not particularly harsh. Homeowners are allowed up to three incidences of false alarms before they receive a notice to attend a mandatory course on proper alarm use. Those who continue to generate false alarms must pay a $25 fee in addition to receiving official inspection of the system. Bunker hopes to reduce the current courtesy notices from four to three.

Secure Watch ADT notes that false alarms are more likely among the base of self-installed systems that are not regulated or monitored 24/7 by a trusted home security company. The company offers customers many resources on how to properly set-up and use its innovative wireless home security system; the systems are professionally installed and monitored. Additionally, certified technicians are available and able to answer any questions or concerns about the product.

Secure Watch ADT adds that Shelby County's efforts to address and reduce false alarms make sense and are in keeping with actions being taken by many other municipalities, as a false emergency can unnecessarily tie up resources needed to make a proper and effective response in the case of an actual emergency. The company strives to educate its customers on how to reduce the number of false alarms. As part of this effort, the company offers optional two-way voice communication, to improve the verification process before help is actually sent to address an alarm. The company also adds that the homeowners are not the only individuals who should know how to operate their security system; children, babysitters, relatives and visitors to the home should also be aware of how the product works.
