Popular Radio Host Kim Kelly Lobbies Fans on Facebook for Interview with Kanye West
After Def Jam declined the interview for West, Kelly tells them she will go around the system
LOS ANGELES, CA, October 01, 2010
Famed internet radio host Kim Kelly of the popular Blog Talk Radio network (www.blogtalkradio.com/my-crew-magazine) has been trying to garner an interview with one of hip hops more controversial artists, Kanye West for months. After following the normal channels, as well as advice and encouragement from industry sources who have been close to West, last week Kelly was stopped cold on Island Def Jam Music's door with an email "Thanks for reaching out. Unfortunately, we will have to respectfully pass on this request. Again, thanks for your interest, and I apologize for the delay in response." She responded with an email back to Def Jam's Vice President thanking him for finally getting back to her after a lengthy up and down delay and that she would go around the system to get to Kanye West directly.Following the similar plight on Facebook that successfully convinced SNL executives to invite Betty White to host a Saturday night show, Kelly started a similar Facebook page "Kanye West Please Come On My Lil' Kim Kelly Radio Show October 14, 2010." The page is to attract as many people from around the world to connect with the page sending a message to West himself that people do want to hear from him on the program hosted by Kim Kelly.
Since the page started 3 days ago, Kelly has vehemently defended West to a few of the nah-sayers who have expressed their opinions that she is wasting her time and should be concentrating her interviews on other more worthy celebrities.
"I have had some exchanges most definitely with a few not so happy with my hustle to have Kanye on my show, but I stand behind this interview that the outcome will change many opinions around the world and for the deeply positive about him," Kelly host of the program says "I was not surprised that Def Jam shut me down, when you deal with the front men they never get it and think since I am not Oprah or Larry King then what can I possibly do for Kanye. I cannot stand this attitude in the industry that the small show like mine can't make an impact to Kanye's overall image which in turn equates to selling more music. Usually, I am able to speak directly to the potential guest and am never told no, never" she adds. "With other artists and guests who have been on my show their interview has been the most impactful of their career and they have gone public with that statement."
Kelly wants to interview the hip hop superstar October 14, 2010 on her popular Thursday night radio program. She is soliciting the help through Facebook from fans around the world in hopes that West agrees to the interview directly. The interview with West is not to talk about his decision making in his past, but rather his foundation as a family unit with his Mother. Discussing how she helped shape him early on by her influences that formed the drive and creativity West produces in his music that is leading edge today. More importantly, sharing with the world who Kanye West really is as a man, the human being. In addition, Kelly hopes to gain his advice to single parents and the children living in the 27 million single parent homes around the country. An impactful interview that touches deep within all of us and one many believe will shed a completely different light and glow upon Kanye West.
