ILG Energy: Natural Gas Sets New Record, Overtakes Coal

A recent report finds that, for the first time, natural gas may be producing more power for United States consumers than coal--a finding that has won the attention of companies like ILG Energy.

2012-07-13
NEW YORK, NY, July 13, 2012 (Press-News.org) For a large portion of the nation's history, coal has stood as the United States' most prominent energy source, powering large planets and ultimately providing countless Americans with the energy they need. According to a recent study, reported by USA Today, coal's streak may have ended. The report confirms that natural gas has broken the record set by coal--that is, that power plants fueled by natural gas have produced as much energy as those plants that are fueled by coal. The surprising new report confirms the important role that natural gas continues to play in shaping America's energy future, and it has won the attention of many energy industry insiders, including land company ILG Energy.

The report draws on data released by the Energy Information Association, which is the data-collecting arm of the Department of Energy. The EIA has been collecting and recording statistics about America's energy production and consumption for decades, but this April, for the very first time, the organization reported that coal was not the uncontested American energy king, with natural gas matching its share of electricity production.

The emergence of natural gas as such a major player in American energy production is ultimately a boon to the entire country, says ILG Energy President Joel Gremillion, in a new statement to the press. "The rise of natural gas offers tremendous advantages for all of us in America," notes Gremillion. "This is largely because natural gas is not only effective, but it is also abundant, which means that it is affordable and offers a truly long-term energy solution."

Indeed, Gremillion notes that America's natural gas reserves have reaches historic highs in 2012, something that points toward its lasting relevance to the nation's energy industry. "Many consumers have already experienced the remarkable effects of our natural gas surplus, in the form of lower energy costs," notes Gremillion. "That such an affordable and accessible fuel is also proving to be so effective in powering our homes and businesses is something we all can celebrate."

The report notes that a large part of natural gas' rise to prominence stems from its accessibility, and from its low prices. According to Gremillion, however, natural gas is advantageous for many different reasons. "Some say that natural gas is a bridge fuel, a stopgag until something better comes along, but that's not the view that we hold at ILG Energy," he explains. "At ILG Energy, we believe natural gas to be a key to America's energy future, and we welcome its increased prominence in all of our lives."

Inadequate Security In NYC Buildings Is A Big Problem In Summer

2012-07-13
Although most New Yorkers welcome summer, the warmer weather also correlates with a rise in crime. School-age teenagers are on break from school and people spend more time outdoors, perhaps explaining why New York City experiences increased violence in the summer. Still, much of the crime is preventable when landlords take basic precautions. One such preventable crime recently occurred in upper Manhattan. A 14-year-old girl suffered an attempted sexual assault in an apartment building stairwell in Inwood. Fortunately, she was able to fight off the attacker. While this ...

Explosion Risks at Grain Processing Facilities

2012-07-13
An explosion or fire at the workplace can be deadly. The risk of an explosion is particularly high at grain bins and grain elevators across the Midwest. In April 2010, a grain silo in Chester, Illinois exploded, injuring four workers. Three of the victims were badly burned in the Illinois work site accident. In the accident, wheat middlings -- fine particles of wheat bran or wheat flour that are a by-product of the milling process -- started to heat up. The company delayed dousing the smoldering wheat middlings while trying to find a low cost subcontractor. The heat ...

New Tennessee Laws Target Synthetic Drugs

2012-07-13
In the first half of 2012, multiple bills criminalizing the manufacture, sale, use and possession of synthetic drugs have become law in Tennessee. Prior to the passage of these new laws, Tennessee only banned specific ingredients used in synthetic drugs. Now, rather than defining the substances by their actual chemical compositions, the new laws attempt to define them by their effects on users. The new drug crime laws are much broader and encompass many more formulations. Tobacco and convenience stores, which were previously legally selling the substances, now may face ...
