LateRooms.com - Have a Flutter at Melbourne Cup Race Day

"The race that stops a nation" is taking place at the start of November.

2010-10-02
MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA, October 02, 2010 (Press-News.org) One of Australia's biggest sporting events, the Melbourne Cup Race Day, is taking place at Flemington Racecourse at the start of November 2010.

Billed as "the race that stops a nation", the day is the focal point of the Melbourne Cup Carnival and is an experience that is not to be missed by guests staying in the last minute accommodation Melbourne offers.

The November 2nd occasion has a strong fashion focus, with attendees typically vying with each other to wear the most spectacular, exotic or simply outrageous outfit, although a hat and a yellow rose in the lapel are a common theme.

However, despite all the dressing up, the real draw for the 100,000 or more people expected to flock to the event will be the running of the 150th Melbourne Cup.

With a prize pot of A$6.175 million at stake, the 3,200m race is the richest in Australia and has become one of the most famous and well regarded thoroughbred contests in the world.

"It is an exciting and exhilarating event where you can experience the pulse of Australia in just one day," the organisers have remarked.

The Melbourne Cup takes place at 15:00 local time, with nine other races on the bill.

General admission to Flemington Racecourse costs A$72, while reserved grandstand seating is available from A$195.

For more information on this event, visit the Melbourne Cup Carnival website or contact the organisers on (+61) 3 0072 7575.

LateRooms.com features a variety of Melbourne accommodation, including the Hotel Grand Chancellor Melbourne and Mercure Welcome Melbourne.
