AMSTERDAM, July 20, 2012 (Press-News.org) Pioneering reggae artist Jimmy Cliff is set to perform in Amsterdam following the release of Rebirth, his first album in eight years.

The 64-year-old singer, who helped to popularise Jamaican music around the world when he appeared in the 1972 film The Harder They Come, will appear at the Paradiso on Wednesday August 8th.

Fans can expect to hear classic songs along with plenty of material from Cliff's latest LP, which has been praised by critics for rejuvenating the veteran performer's trademark sound.

The album was produced by Tim Armstrong of US punk band Rancid and features several cover versions, including a take on The Clash's Guns of Brixton.

It also includes the single One More and a biographical track entitled Reggae Music, on which Cliff revisits the start of his career as a teenager in Kingston.

Tickets for the Amsterdam show can be purchased online, priced at EUR22.50 (GBP17.60). Doors will open at 19:30 local time.
