Right Brain Networks Improves Cloud Compliance, Performance, & ROI with Online Tech's Data Centers

Right Brain Networks Realizes 1000-Fold Performance Improvement and Cuts Hosting Costs in Half with Online Tech's Cloud Colocation Services

2012-07-26
ANN ARBOR, MI, July 26, 2012 (Press-News.org) Right Brain Networks, a cloud-based application development and hosting company, offers clients faster performance and more control over their hosting investment with Online Tech's HIPAA and SSAE 16 compliant Michigan data centers.

As a cloud-based solution provider, Right Brain Networks works with many of the large cloud computing companies. However, when applications demand a high level of performance and compliance, hosting with a cloud provider dedicated to maintaining a secure, multi-compliant environment makes better business sense, especially when hosting costs are reduced.

"Rather than throwing my client's application on Amazon EC2 and having no idea where in the cloud the data resides, with Online Tech I can guarantee clients their data is in a HIPAA compliant data center," says Jamie Begin, President of Right Brain Networks.

Recently, Right Brain Networks moved one of their clients from Amazon EC2 to a colocated server at one of Online Tech's high-availability data centers to improve performance. The client had created a web-based cloud Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) application and hosted it on Amazon EC2. The application provides international trade intelligence, allowing companies to investigate every ocean shipment arriving in the United States.

According to Begin, the client came to them because the web application was too slow and unusable. With 40,000 new records being added daily, Right Brain Networks reevaluated the application and found it was not fully leveraging cloud computing and auto-scaling. So, Right Brain Networks redeveloped the application and moved it to their colocated server in one of Online Tech's data centers. By hosting the application with Online Tech, the client saw performance improve 1000 times and cut their monthly hosting costs in half.

Throughout Begin's systems engineering career, he has worked with a number of data center providers across the United States. However, when he was looking for a data center for his growing company, he knew he wanted a data center operator that could meet a wide variety of compliance standards. Many of his competitors only work with Amazon EC2 or Google App Engine. However, Begin believes that Online Tech's independently HIPAA, PCI, SSAE 16/SOC1, SOC 2, and SOC 3 audited data centers gives him a competitive advantage.

"With Online Tech we have a data center that we can actually move client applications to when they need to have HIPAA, PCI, or Sarbanes-Oxley compliance," says Begin. "It gives us a solution that we can offer our clients when compliance is important."

Online Tech offers Right Brain Networks secure, compliant scalable hosting solutions. The Midwest data centers are located in a region known for low risk of natural disaster, and have a long legacy of independent, annual audits starting with the AICPA's SAS 70 Type II and SSAE 16 Type II (aka SOC 1) audits that report on financial controls. Subsequently, Online Tech invested in an independent SOC 2 Type II audit, designed by the AICPA to measure a data center's controls around data privacy, integrity, security, availability, and confidentiality. Online Tech's data centers are also independently HIPAA audited against all standards and citations of the HITECH act to protect patient data (ePHI), and PCI DSS audited to ensure the security of cardholder data.
