Hetman Partition Recovery was among the first tools on the market to employ the signature search technology to locate and recover files from hard drives with damaged, missing or corrupted file systems. If a matching signature is detected, Hetman Partition Recovery can further analyze information, calculating the exact location and length of the file on the hard disk. Inherent disadvantages of signature search are slow speed (reading the entire disk surface is naturally slower than accessing the file system alone) and limited support of only certain file types.
