Vin de Set Celebrates Julia Child's 100th Birthday

Vin de Set restaurant in St. Louis commemorates Julia Child's 100th birthday with a special menu during the week of her centennial.

2012-08-04
BALLWIN, MO, August 04, 2012 (Press-News.org) Vin de Set restaurant will celebrate the 100th birthday of "French Chef" Julia Child with a special three-course dinner to be offered August 14-19. Chef Ivy Magruder has chosen the menu items from among his favorite Julia Child recipes.

Fans of Julia Child and her cooking can enjoy the special dinner for 29.99. Vin de Set's regular menu will also be available.

The courses (with Julia Child's descriptions included) are:

- Billi-Bi, a soup of mussel stock, white wine and cream. ("Billi-Bi is one of those soups that seduces you the first spoonful you take.")

- Cold Braised Veal Salad, with tuna sauce. ("Cold veal is a mild meat and tuna gives it the flavor lift it needs.")

- Julia's Rib-Eye Steak Diane, with Provencal tomatoes. ("In my Steak Diane sauce, I mix the base with some Dijon mustard, which provides a natural thickening.")

Magruder says, "I think Julia Child's cuisine and the way she made it approachable has allowed restaurants like Vin de Set to open to the mass public. Anyone can come into a French restaurant and feel comfortable because of Julia."

Vin de Set is located at 2017 Chouteau in St. Louis. Julia Child was born August 15, 1912.
