SAN FRANCISCO, CA, August 04, 2012 (Press-News.org) Today, Lonesome George & Co., a mission driven apparel company that invests 10% from every sale into funding social entrepreneurs, is providing a sneak peek into the evolution of their company with an expanded product offering to satisfy Agents of Change worldwide.
Eduardo Balarezo founded Lonesome George & Co. in 2006 as an answer to the growing problem of consumers' mindless actions that resulted in the unfortunate end of a species, Lonesome George, who passed away this past June in the Galapagos Islands. In order to help preserve the legacy of the last Pinta Island Tortoise, the company is working harder than ever to inspire Agents of Change to take action.
Designed with consciousness in mind, the sustainable apparel contains strong messages and is made using certified Peruvian organic cotton. Eduardo's great grandfather was responsible for creating the cotton industry in Peru by introducing Pima Cotton to the country. He then used that success to help with philanthropic efforts including boosting local education and creating libraries. Following in a deeply rooted Agent of Change mentality, Lonesome George & Co. continues to give back to the community in Peru by sourcing materials locally and employing single mothers for apparel embroidery application.
Earlier this year, the company expanded from outside their South American roots with presence in the United States and Europe. As the demand for Lonesome George & Co.'s apparel grows, the company is also evolving to introduce a deeper product offering to include denim and khaki pants, men's and women's button downs, dresses and skirts, all tied back to their unique mission to create real change through consumers' conscious choices.
"We are finding that more consumers than ever want to make an impact and take back the power of their choices," said Eduardo Balarezo, founder of Lonesome George & Co. "We want to give these consumers more options. As we grow our product lines and sales continue to increase, the opportunity to fund the Academy of Agents of Change grows as well."
The Academy is the result of Lonesome George & Co.'s MIND.SHIFT.IMPACT approach to creating sustainable change by investing in social entrepreneurs. The company raises awareness with designs on apparel (MIND), investing 10% of every sale in sending participants through Outward Bound programming (SHIFT) followed by Ashoka's Youth Venture (IMPACT) programming. The result is a social entrepreneur equipped with the tools to create change in his or her community.
