The Mississauga Food Bank Launches New Website

The Mississauga Food Bank is pleased to announce the launch of its new website. The site will make it faster and easier for people to find information about hunger in Mississauga, food bank locations, volunteering and donating.

MISSISSAUGA, ON, August 07, 2012 (Press-News.org) The Mississauga Food Bank website will include a new online volunteer system. This new feature will allow volunteers to schedule and manage their own volunteer service. Whether it is sorting food or helping at special events, volunteers make sure that more food can reach more people throughout the community. The hope is that this new system will better manage valuable volunteer time.

A major goal for the new website is to help the food bank connect with the local community. Seventeen percent of Mississauga residents live in poverty, sixty-one percent of whom are children. Ongoing access to food banks is vital to these residents. The new website features links to a Facebook page, Twitter account and blog. This makes it easier to connect with the food bank at anytime from anywhere.

Information on how to help the food bank is also available on the website. There are always new and exciting ways to donate, fundraise or raise awareness. The website is a great tool to keep people up-to-date on how to help. One of the most recent donation ideas that were introduced is 'GiftIt', a website designed to sell goods or services online with the proceeds going directly to charity.

According to Meghan Nicholls, the Director of Marketing and Fund Development at The Mississauga Food Bank, "We are very pleased with the results of our new website. It is a valuable tool in reaching more people struggling with hunger in Mississauga. The new site is user friendly and inviting. We look forward to improving our online community and encourage people to visit us online."

The Mississauga Food Bank is the largest food distribution program in Mississauga, Ontario serving almost 2 million meals each year through 111 food programs, including the city's seven neighbourhood food banks.
