JUPITER, FL, August 18, 2012 (Press-News.org) Monday is the perfect day to start fresh. A day for starting over, and for thinking of ways that we can make our lives a little better. An easy way to do that is to think about eating well, and we can even take it a step further by eating in a way that is beneficial to the environment. After an interview with Sid Lerner, founder of Meatless Monday arouse at The Foodie Journal, inSHAPE Fitness owner, Kim Watkins, who has been religiously following the Meatless Monday campaign with weekly recipes via social media was intrigued and wanted to find a way to spread the word even more. "At inSHAPE we love food! What's the fun in being fit and strong if you don't enjoy yourself every once in a while. Clearly The Foodie Journal understands this, which is why we are thrilled to announce the partnership," joyously cheers Watkins.
For those of you that are not familiar with the Meatless campaign, it is a non-profit initiative of The Monday Campaigns, in association with the Johns Hopkins' Bloomberg School of Public Health. The Monday Campaigns provide the information and recipes needed to start each week with healthy, environmentally friendly meat-free alternatives. Their goal is to help individuals reduce their meat consumption by 15% in order to improve personal health and the health of the planet.
"For years, I passively considered reasons and ways to lower my meat consumption. I like meat, and I am very active, so eating it has never posed a problem for me health-wise. Three years ago when I had my daughter, I got serious about it, mostly to minimize the hormones being fed into her body," states Watkins. "A few months ago, I saw an advertisement for Meatless Monday in a food magazine in the Hamptons, and I was sold without even reading the copy," continues Kim.
inSHAPE Fitness immediately adopted the movement to help spread the word, as did The Foodie Journal. "I was proponent of the Meatless Monday campaign since I first heard of it considering how it can help both individuals and the planet as well. So, when I had the opportunity to team up with the team at inSHAPE Fitness to provide regular meatless recipes on The Foodie Journal it was an obvious win-win.," states The Foodie Journal founder, Reuben Vareza. inSHAPE Fitness works with a little more than one thousand clients in the New York tri-state area, and going meatless on Mondays is part of their weekly message.
