Operation: Coming Home Hosts Groundbreaking For Fourth Hero Home

Volunteer Project Builds Fourth Home To Honor The Service Of U.S. Marine Lance Cpl. Richie Chavis

RALEIGH, NC, August 22, 2012 (Press-News.org) Operation: Coming Home (http://operationcominghome.com), a joint volunteer project by the Triangle Veterans Association, Home Builders Association of Raleigh-Wake County (HBA), and Royal Oaks Building Group, among others, held a groundbreaking ceremony for the dedication of the organization's fourth Hero Home on Aug. 16 in Lexington Plantation in Cameron, N.C. The recipient of the fourth home is U.S. Marine Lance Cpl. Richie Chavis, who was severely injured after two months in serving in Afghanistan on Nov. 29, 2010.

The groundbreaking ceremony included addresses by Tim Minton, president of the Operation: Coming Home Foundation and executive vice president of the Home Builders Association of Raleigh-Wake County, Maj. Paul Greenberg, executive officer to the Wounded Warrior Battalion-East organization, and Rich Van Tassel, president of the Royal Oaks Building Group. Chavis spoke to the crowd and repeatedly thanked the Operation Coming Home foundation, volunteers and donors for their efforts as well.

Specially fitted and wheel-chair friendly, the new home will include a number of features designed to ensure easy accessibility to all rooms. The ceremony marked the beginning of construction, with the completion of the home projected for early December.
