GreeNEWit Partners With Opportunity International to Support Aspiring Entrepreneurs in Developing Countries

greeNEWit, an organization founded to help society build more sustainable communities and better economies through energy efficiency and conserving the use of natural resources, has partnered with Opportunity International.

2012-08-22
NEW YORK, NY, August 22, 2012 (Press-News.org) greeNEWit, an organization founded to help society build more sustainable communities and better economies through energy efficiency and conserving the use of natural resources, has partnered with Opportunity International, a nonprofit that helps people in developing countries work their way out of poverty. greeNEWit has joined Opportunity International in their efforts to provide access to small business loans, savings, insurance and training to more than four million people in some of the world's most remote and impoverished areas.

greeNEWit purchased an allotment of small business loans in the form of gift cards and are distributing them to their employees. As part of the company's social corporate responsibility, the employees get to decide which Opportunity International businesses to invest in, giving them a voice in the company's philanthropic choices. After contributing, greeNEWit employees can track the progress of the client and their loan repayment with regular email updates.

"We recently adopted a 'local-to-global' campaign at our company," greeNEWit Co-Founder Josh Notes said. "The idea is to connect and teach aspiring business leaders across the globe how to use entrepreneurial principles to create and manage a project to achieve social change. One of the ways we can do this is by funding an Opportunity International client loan, and in doing so we're helping an entrepreneur create change in his/her life and impact society as a whole."

Opportunity International was one of the first nonprofit organizations to recognize the benefits of providing small business loans as capital to those working their way out of poverty. Clients in more than 20 countries use Opportunity to start or expand a business, provide for their families, create jobs for their neighbors and build a safety net for the future.
