Farmingdale State College Student Designs Emerald Summit Conference Logo

Farmingdale State College student Patricia Macari has been chosen to receive a Purple Pump Award from Moxxie Network Foundation

2012-08-23
MELVILLE, NY, August 23, 2012 (Press-News.org) Farmingdale State College student Patricia Macari has been chosen to receive a Purple Pump Award from Moxxie Network Foundation. Macari designed a logo for the Foundation's inaugural fundraiser and conference promoting women's leadership, The Emerald Summit. .

In 2012, Macari was in her senior year at Farmingdale State College as a Visual Communications major. Students in their last year are required to take a class entitled "Agency I" taught by Professor Wayne Krush. Students gain valuable experience by working on actual projects for selected not-for-profit clients. The purpose of this pro-bono work is to provide students the opportunity to develop professional quality samples for their portfolios. One of the non-profits to take part in this year's class project was the Moxxie Network Foundation. The Founder, Beth Meixner stated "Moxxie Network Foundation provides young women with opportunities to learn skills, grow as a professional and become leaders. Tricia Micari and her classmates were given a chance to create a unique design that will be used for years and seen by thousands. These real-life business experiences help prepare students for post-college life." Meixner gave a brief presentation to the senior class on the Foundation's mission and the students were asked to design a unique logo that reflected the concept of The Emerald Summit.

"What a wonderful opportunity for our students to gain experience and give back to the community. This is inspiration, mentoring and leadership in action." said Dr. Lorraine Greenwald, Dean of International Education and Programs as Farmingdale State College. Macari responded to the challenge to provide the logo and states "With lots of trial and error, I came up with a logo I felt they would love!" She was right. Out of a total of 35 submissions, Moxxie Network Foundation chose Macari's design. The logo features the title, "Emerald Summit" and the three main components of the event; Inspire, Mentor, Lead. Macari's corporate skyline image includes a purple pump on top of one of the highest towers. A clear statement of women reaching leadership positions in corporate America.

Macari will be honored for her design at the Emerald Summit's luncheon on October 18th at Cold Spring Country Club in Huntington, NY. Amy Siskind, President of The new Agenda will be keynoting the luncheon and interviewed by Debra Borchardt, Market Analyst at TheStreet.com. Other nationally-recognized speakers include Marsha Haygood, President of StepWise Associates LLC; Ellen Karis, Political Humorist aka as Greek Goddess of Comedy; Janet C. Salazar, President of MVI Advisors; Laura Schroff, author of An Invisible Thread and Nicole Williams, author of Girl on Top.
