TORONTO, ON, August 23, 2012 (Press-News.org) Many home stagers are introverts according to home staging expert Debra Gould. On the Home Staging Business Report blog, Gould discusses the effect of introversion on creativity.
"I've asked thousands of my home stager followers on Facebook and Twitter whether they consider themselves introverts or extroverts and found that most of us describe ourselves as introverts," Gould writes. "We can certainly behave like extroverts when it serves a business or personal goal but it's not our natural inclination."
Gould believes that it can be difficult for introverts to appreciate their special gifts in a world that expects them to be extroverted.
"Being able to be happy alone is a strength because you don't have to tie yourself up in knots just to always have someone around you," Gould shares. "On the other hand, being an introvert means I really have to push myself to do the self-promotion that's required when you run your own business. I've certainly proved that it can be done because I've been supporting myself, and later my family, since 1989 working from a home office."
In her article, Gould discusses a video titled "The Power of Introverts" by author Susan Cain. In her talk, Cain explores how solitude can be an important factor in innovation and creativity.
"Many home stagers can relate to this idea," Gould says, "because we run our staging businesses from a home office and not many of us have business partners to keep us company or bounce ideas off of."
Gould has also observed that many home stagers prefer their clients not be present when they are staging their homes because it's easier to generate creative ideas, and get a feeling for the house, without that distraction.
"I'm most creative and engaged with a house when I can connect with it without the influence of anyone else there. In fact, I discovered through writing an article a few months ago, that I'm not the only home stager who believes that a house speaks to me!"
Staging Diva Graduate Christine Marshall of Brisbane, Australia finds a similar power in solitude: "As an introvert, I understand the need to be quiet to create. In my work, I disappear into my own world to write, design and plan. When I come out of my world with my work, others are amazed at what I produce."
For additional information on starting and growing a home staging business, Gould invites home stagers to visit the Home Staging Business Report on the Staging Diva website.
