SARASOTA, FL, August 25, 2012 (Press-News.org) Local businesses and community leaders went to "jail" to help MDA on August 22, 2012. With help from some wonderful volunteers, Jailbirds were taken into custody for MDA's Lock-Up, held at Fleming's Prime Steakhouse in Sarasota, FL. The money pledged as "bail" for participating Jailbirds will fund local MDA services such as flu shots, clinic visits, summer camp for kids, support groups, physical, occupational, and respiratory therapy consultation and the MDA clinic at Sarasota Memorial Hospital.
Each year, more than 120 youngsters attend MDA summer camps in Sorrento, Brandon, Lake Worth and Port St. Joe. The kids enjoy a free camp adventure, and each camper is accompanied by a volunteer counselor who provides the care, supervision and attention needed by children with muscle disease.
"They really came through! Saying you will contribute is the easy part. Actually writing the check and putting it in the mail takes effort. For that, and the outpouring of donations I have received from family, friends and business relationships nationwide, I am extremely thankful." Mr. McElmeel commented. "I knew they would get behind this cause and contribute generously, and they did. I hope this helps the Muscular Dystrophy Association, as it is one organization that I enjoy supporting." Mr. McElmeel said.
