GRAND RAPIDS, MI, August 25, 2012 (Press-News.org) Brian P. Lennon, an attorney with the law firm of Warner Norcross & Judd LLP, will receive a national award for his investigative and trial work from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.
Lennon will be recognized for his work on Operation Holiday Express, a case he led during his tenure as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Western District of Michigan. Operation Holiday Express involved the investigation and prosecution of more than 20 people operating two California-based drug trafficking organizations who used tractor trailers and a variety of vehicles, including motorhomes, to transport thousands of kilograms of cocaine to Michigan. Lennon joined Warner Norcross earlier this year and concentrates his practice in criminal defense, corporate compliance and higher education.
Lennon and his team from the U.S. Attorney's Office will receive an ATF Honor Award on Aug. 23 during the 16th Annual ATF Award Ceremony in Washington, D.C. The annual awards program recognizes the accomplishments of ATF employee and federal, state and local law enforcement who have exemplified bravery, heroism, sacrifice and dedication in the line of duty.
During his 13-year tenure as Assistant U.S. Attorney, Lennon served as lead prosecutor for the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force, holding the district record for the most convictions in a single year. In this role, he successfully prosecuted hundreds of defendants for various felony violations, including murder, bank robbery, firearms, racketeering and money laundering. Lennon also served as deputy criminal chief for four years.
He has also served as trial attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. and as a special assistant United States Attorney in the Eastern District of Virginia.
Lennon began his legal career after service as a Marine. He spent four years in the Office of the Staff Judge Advocate in at the Marine Corps Base in Quantico, Va., serving first as a civil law officer and later as trial counsel.
