Patients can now achieve the straighter smile they have always wanted with the help of Invisalign. Today, Invisalign is a leading brand of orthodontic appliances used to straighten teeth over time. The clear, discreet aligners are designed to be more esthetically pleasing than conventional, metal braces while treating certain types of minor misaligned tooth problems.

Dr. Feffer, Lincoln Park dentist, begins the Invisalign process with a set of impressions and photographs of a patient's teeth, which are used to create a three-dimensional computer image of how the patient's teeth will gradually move after each session. Through the impressions and images, a series of custom-made aligners are designed to accomplish this gradual adjustment.

Invisalign utilizes 3-D computer imaging technology to design the complete treatment plan. From the initial teeth positioning to the desired final positioning, this 3-D imaging allows Dr. Feffer to show his patients the final positioning of their teeth before treatment begins. Each aligner is worn for approximately two weeks and are custom-made based on the imaging information. Typically, patients will visit with Dr. Jeffrey Feffer, best dentist in Lakeview and Lincoln Park, once every six weeks to observe the progress of their smile.

Each aligner must be worn in the specific order given by Dr. Feffer for approximately two weeks. During this time, a patient's teeth will move in small increments of about .25 millimeters to .33 millimeters. Although the aligners are conveniently removable, Dr. Feffer recommends that they must be worn for at least 20 hours a day in order to successfully reposition a patient's teeth.
