TROY, MI, September 06, 2012 (Press-News.org) Don Jasurda, VP of Sales at Dimensional Control Systems (DCS), a quality software solutions provider, will be speaking on bridging the gap between design and manufacturing using interconnected tools at the 2012 International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS).
The event will be held at the McCormick Place in Chicago, Illinois, September 10 - 15, 2012. Jasurda will present "Closed-Loop Tolerance Analyses Enable Plant Floor QA Process Improvement" at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 13.
He will discuss the connecting of design and manufacturing through a closed-loop approach to create more robust designs, and to engineer through production to reduce quality issues and improve manufacturability. By focusing on design for manufacturing in a virtual environment, and simulating the assembly process, dimensional analysis can create optimized tolerances, reduce the need for rework, and predict future quality problems before production begins. With the closed-loop approach, analysis does not end after production begins, but instead utilizes real data to continually improve upon the design and manufacturing process throughout the product life cycle.
"As production demands increase, suddenly processes where hand fitting and rework were accepted means of manufacturing are no longer acceptable. In order to meet the demand, designs need to be more robust, and processes need to be constantly improved upon," says Jasurda. "By correlating actual build results to the original form intent, we can bridge the gap between design and production, closing the loop on product manufacturing. This allows the optimization of the product design based on real product information."
The 2012 IMTS Conference provides a place for the manufacturing industry to share knowledge, experience, and create a community of peers to explore new ideas. For more information on the IMTS Conference, visit http://www.imts.com/index.html.
