NORCROSS, GA, September 13, 2012 (Press-News.org) Eye care retailer America's Best would like to explain some of the differences between nearsightedness and farsightedness.
Both nearsightedness and farsightedness are refractive conditions. This means that each problem has something to do with how light is focused as it enters the eye. In a person who does not need prescription glasses to correct their vision, as light enters the eye, it will be perfectly focused onto the retina (which detects light).
Nearsightedness (also called myopia) occurs when light entering the eye focuses in front of the retina, rather than on it. The effect is a blurred image on the retina. A nearsighted person (or myopic person) would then see better at near distances, but will require eyeglasses to see clearly at far distances.
Farsightedness (also called hyperopia) occurs when light entering the eye focuses behind the retina, also causing a blurred image. A farsighted person (or a hyperopic person) might see objects at a far distance without trouble, but closer objects will be blurry without glasses.
If you believe you may have either of these conditions, you should schedule an eye exam with an optometrist as soon as possible. Independent eye doctors practice inside America's Best locations across the country offering a free eye exam with the purchase of two pairs of glasses.
"We want our customers to be educated about what is going on with their vision," explains Dr. Grace Kim, Chairperson for the Clinical Advisory Panel of America's Best. "Myopia and hyperopia are very common refractive conditions, and we love it when we can help people understand how their prescription glasses are correcting these issues."
With over 300 convenient locations across the nation, America's Best offers a wide selection of discount designer glasses, so you can correct your vision in style. What could be more convenient than getting an eye exam and discount designer glasses all from the same trusted eyewear experts?
