Partnership with Newcastle Beer and Share Our Strength Launches Season-Long Fundraiser to Eradicate Child Hunger
2012-09-13
SAN FRANCISCO, CA, September 13, 2012 (Press-News.org) Elixir, the Mission District's historic neighborhood saloon for the last 154 years, launches the 2012 football season by offering their popular All-American BBQ with the added twist of raising money all season long for Share Our Strength, a national charity that works to eradicate child hunger in America. Newcastle Beer is sponsoring the free buffet of hot dogs, chili, tortilla chips and rotating grilled items like hamburgers and chicken and Elixir is asking for a suggested $5 donation to Share Our Strength during all televised NCAA and NFL games, for the entire season.

"We've been offering traditional tailgate food during games and trying different fundraising efforts over the years, but this program offers us a chance to raise a significant amount of money for a cause I firmly believe in." said Elixir's owner H. Joseph Ehrmann. "And by offering it during both NCAA and NFL games we can reach a wider audience, including alumni groups like the University of Oregon that call Elixir home for their game watches."

Such alumni groups find Elixir's lack of traditional sports bar decor and poor quality drinks to be a perfect alternative to overcrowded venues that normally cater to them. The proximity of a high number of the city's best restaurants (with takeout food) offers the "non-tailgate eater" a wide variety of food options for the games.

"Our football viewing crowd meets the casual Mission shoppers, the locals, the tourists, the cocktail fans and more, making for a lively and diverse crowd," added Bar Manager Shea Shawnson, who bartends the weekend days. "They come for a drink and stay for a game, or vice versa. It's an interactive crowd where friendships are made and the atmosphere is always fun."

Newcastle Beer will be on sale for $4 a pint during all games throughout the season (normally $6) and Elixir is open at 9am on Saturdays and 10am on Sundays to catch East Coast kick offs. If there is a game on TV, you can catch it on one of Elixir's HDTV screens.

About ELIXIR
ELIXIR, San Francisco's Second Oldest Saloon Location, has been serving Mission Dolores neighbors since 1858. As the first Certified Green Bar in California, the saloon features a full collection of organic beer, wine and spirits, along with inventive organic cocktails. Joseph Ehrmann counts "Bartender of the Year" (Nightclub and Bar Magazine) and "Rising Star" (Cheers Magazine) amongst his accolades. The restored original Mahogany back bar reminds guests of San Francisco's Wild West roots; while 4 TVs, satellite sports, 2 real dart boards and a rock and roll jukebox entertain its contemporary customers daily. A bright and friendly atmosphere during the daily best Happy Hour in San Francisco is followed by the allure of red velvet curtains and candlelight by night. With an extensive spirits collection, delicious and award-winning signature cocktails and 15 of the freshest tap beers around, ELIXIR is the Mission's Neighborhood Saloon.
