Talk Fusion Founder & CEO Bob Reina Cuts Red Ribbon at Grand Opening of Humane Society of Tampa Bay Animal Health Center

Nearly one year after donating $1 million to start construction of new center, visionary for industry-leading video communication products company honored at opening ceremony & presents $75,000 check to make family's dream come true

2012-09-15
TAMPA, FL, September 15, 2012 (Press-News.org) Talk Fusion, a rapidly growing global video communication solution company, today announced that Founder & CEO Bob Reina donated $75,000 to Humane Society of Tampa Bay [HSTB] Executive Director Sherry Silk and The Albano Family to be used for naming the feral cat patio at the newly-opened Animal Health Center in honor of the late Wendy Albano. This spectacular surprise to the family members took place at the ribbon cutting and grand opening celebration September 6, 2012, in Tampa, Florida.

Reina, a Humane Society board member and supporter, contributed $1 million to the Humane Society in late 2011 to fund the building of the Animal Health Center. That donation is the largest ever received by the Humane Society of Tampa Bay during its 100-year history. Besides Reina, other donors, sponsors and elected officials were honored for their support during the special ceremony for the Animal Health Center that has been a long time coming. The new facility is more than 10,000 square feet and features five exam rooms and six surgery tables.

"We know that people are turning their pets into various shelters because they can't afford proper vet care," said Reina, who strongly believes that with great success comes greater responsibility. "A lot of clinics have affordable spay-neuter, but they don't offer full service. In an effort to stem the euthanasia rate in Hillsborough County, we built the center because the desire and the need are overwhelming."

WENDY'S KITTY FUND ~ THE GIFT
In February 2012, Wendy Albano, a beloved Tampa Bay businesswoman, tragically lost her life while on vacation in Thailand. As a tribute to their mother's love for cats, her daughters, Jennifer and Lauren Albano, established "Wendy's Kitty Fund" to raise $100,000 needed to name the Animal Health Center's feral cat patio in her honor. Through fundraising events and the diligent efforts of friends and family, "Wendy's Kitty Fund" had raised $25,000 at the time of the center's grand opening, an admirable amount, however still short of the goal.

Reina, also a former Hillsborough County Sheriff's Deputy, was deeply touched by the heartbreaking Albano case and the resilience he witnessed in her daughters. When he became aware that they were having difficulty raising the necessary funds for the patio naming, he resolved to make their dream come true by contributing the remaining $75,000.

"I am very impressed by the initiative both Jennifer and Lauren have taken to create a legacy for Wendy," Reina said. "They have endured the unimaginable. And for that, I am happy to help them achieve their dream in memory of their mother. I strongly believe in them and that they will take the opportunity to pay it forward."

Wendy Albano's extended family and close friends were present at the ceremony along with her parents who were also celebrating their 54th wedding anniversary. Just before the ceremony, representatives from "Wendy's Kitty Fund" met with Silk and HSTB Director of Development Nancy McCall to discuss the next steps in raising funds to "pay it forward."

"I wish everyone in the Tampa Bay area could have seen the looks of pure shock, relief and joy on the family's faces when Bob presented the gift," Silk said. "I don't think there was a dry eye in the house. What a wonderful tribute to Wendy and her daughters, and a fitting anniversary present for her parents!"

Silk added: "Bob has once again shown that he not only cares for companion animals in need, but also for people who are suffering or experiencing difficulty in their lives. We are very fortunate to have him as a board member, supporter and friend."

The Wendy Albano Feral Cat Patio at HSTB's Animal Health Center houses the organization's acclaimed Trap/Neuter/Vaccinate/Return [TNVR] program, which has helped decrease the cat euthanasia rate by 46% during the past five years throughout Hillsborough County. Albano, who owned six cats, was a staunch supporter of programs promoting spay/neuter and affordable wellness services for cats in the local community.
