Del Mar kitchen wins "Best Large Kitchen" by San Diego NKBA.

Jackson Design & Remodeling Wins San Diego NKBA Award for California Coastal Kitchen
2012-09-19
SAN DIEGO, CA, September 19, 2012 (Press-News.org) Jackson Design & Remodeling (JDR) today announced it has won a San Diego National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA) award in the category "Best Large Kitchen" for a California Coastal remodel in Del Mar.

JDR Senior Interior Designer Tatiana Machado-Rosas and Structural Designer Chris Ashby, designed the award-winning kitchen that was executed by the JDR design build team. The first step in the remodeling process was to restructure the first level to create one open living area/family room space integrated with the new kitchen. Key design features include:

- A curved hood is positioned against a backdrop of subtly shimmering porcelain tiles

- An island was created with a trapezoid shape rather than with a more traditional bar seating style so that the clients and their children can interact while eating or engaged in homework and cooking

- A new wine rack acts as a small wine cellar with a custom designed wrought iron door

- A series of floating shelves in one corner provides space to display the clients' favorite objects

- A sparkling white quartz countertop makes a lovely contrast with the island's sumptuous piece of "Wasabi" granite in captivating shades of aqua

- Shaker-style mahogany cabinetry with a light stain sets the tone of simple, contemporary design while providing the clients with an abundance of storage from floor to ceiling, including a new walk-in pantry

- As an imaginative alternative to dropped beams or a soffit, a recess with indirect lighting defines the kitchen in the newly expanded area while bringing additional light and comfort to the space

"We're so proud to receive this award from NKBA," said Todd Jackson, President of JDR. "This kitchen was part of a whole home remodel that was a huge undertaking and required all of our team members working seamlessly. For projects of this size, attention to detail is a huge factor that makes the difference between a nice kitchen and an NKBA-award winning kitchen!"

Entries were judged on overall aesthetics, seamless flow of activities within a space, and balancing the client's lifestyle with their home's personality. To ensure impartial judging, San Diego entries were judged by a panel of NKBA Certified designers from the Puget Sound chapter. San Diego Home & Garden Lifestyles will publish all the winning projects in the November issue.
