Annual Fine Designer Crafts Show To Feature Teddy Devereux

Durham-Based Artist To Display Work At Annual Crafts Show Hosted By The Carolina Designer Craftsmen Guild

2012-09-20
RALEIGH, NC, September 20, 2012 (Press-News.org) The Carolina Designer Craftsmen Guild (http://www.carolinadesignercraftsmen.com) has announced that Durham-based artist Teddy Devereux will be showcasing her work at the 43rd Annual Fine Designer Crafts Show at the North Carolina State Fairgrounds in Raleigh from Friday, Nov. 23 until Sunday, Nov. 25. Devereux, an individual craftsperson who also owns Vitreous Humor Art Glass, will display glass fused pictures, sculptures, plates and coasters.

In this year's show, Devereux will display some of her newer cast glass sculptural pieces in the $300 to $900 price range, as well as new styles of sushi plates and platters made with innovative techniques and chemical reactions in the $50 to $100 range. Her unique fused glass art has a scientific theme but is more abstract than literal.

Devereux, a former scientist, began fusing art glass in 1993. She was drawn to the possibilities for creativity in fused glass crafts and joined the Carolina Designer Craftsmen Guild after years of visiting its show. Devereux's work was featured on the cover of the May 2011 edition of British Columbia Medical Journal and was featured in the book Sculpture and Design with Recycled Glass, written by Cindy Ann Coldiron.

QUOTES:
"We are pleased to feature Teddy's work at this year's Fine Designer Crafts Show," said Elizabeth Lyne, president of the Carolina Designer Craftsmen Guild. "Teddy's unique collection of fused glass pieces has attracted many show visitors in the past, and we are positive it will this year as well."

DETAILS:
- Fused glass is created by melting pieces of thermally compatible glass together at high temperatures.

- According to Devereux, there are many subtleties to the process that must be controlled in order to create the desired outcome. Each firing creates a different result, but the experiments become more predictable with experience.
