The Portrait Society of America Announces the 2012 Fall Portrait Academy

The Portrait Society of America proudly announces its 2012 Fall Portrait Academy, sponsored by the City of Miami Arts & Entertainment Council, to be held on November 2nd and 3rd in Miami, Florida.

MIAMI, FL, September 21, 2012 (Press-News.org) The Portrait Society of America proudly announces its 2012 Fall Portrait Academy to be held on November 2nd and 3rd at the Fairchild Gardens and Vizcaya Museum & Gardens in Miami, Florida. The two-day event features an artist demonstration by Hodges Soileau, a lecture by Professor David Chang and a Plein Air workshop with Hodges Soileau, David Chang and Kerry Vosler. The City of Miami Arts & Entertainment Council is the proud sponsor of this enriching and educational event.

The Fall Portrait Academy kicks off at 12:30 p.m. on November 2nd at the Fairchild Gardens, located in 10901 Old Cutler Road, Coral Gables, Florida 33156, with a lecture to commemorate one of the art history's most well-known portrait artists, John Singer Sargent, given by David Chang, a nationally renowned artist and professor at Florida International University. A portrait demonstration in the outdoor setting of the Fairchild Gardens follows the lecture at 2 p.m. Hodges Soileau, an award winning artist, is scheduled to demonstrate his approach to the protrait from a live model.

"John Singer Sargent has always been considered the leading portrait painter of his generation," said Chang, "and was among the extended house guests of the Vizcaya's owner of the time, James Deering."

On Saturday, November 3rd, the event continues at 10 a.m. with a Plein Air Workshop at the historical Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, located in 3251 South Miami Avenue, Miami, FL 33129. Attendees of the workshop have the opportunity to receive one-on-one instruction from faculty members Hodges Soileau, David Chang and Kerry Vosler.
