The Carlisle Partners with North Naples Fire Control District

New satellite office at luxury, resort-style retirement community will reduce emergency response time

NAPLES, FL, August 20, 2010

Residents in the North Naples Fire Control District—the area including the residential housing in Naples Park, Pine Ridge and North Naples—will see the response time for emergency vehicles significantly reduced under a new partnership between the District and The Carlisle Naples, a luxury, resort-style retirement community.

The pilot program, which was ratified by the Board of Fire Commissions on Aug. 12, calls for a satellite emergency medical services (EMS) office to be housed on-site at The Carlisle, 6945 Carlisle Court, off Airport-Pulling Road.

"An audit by the District revealed the North Naples area had the highest concentration of calls," said Deputy Chief of Medical Services Jorge Aguilera. "This presented a challenge in meeting our response call goals. We needed a solution that would help us improve our response times while utilizing our existing resources."

The new substation, located within The Carlisle, will be staffed by one to two employees who will work weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.—the time most emergency calls are made by North Naples residents.

In addition to providing an office to the North Naples Fire Control District, The Carlisle Naples provides external space for emergency response vehicles.

"We're thrilled to be able to give back to the Naples community, especially the fire department," said The Carlisle's Executive Director Colin Marshall. "They put their lives on the line for so many people and it's not often that you get to help them out. It's a privilege for The Carlisle to be a part of such an innovative concept."

Aguilera says there have already been positive changes as a result of the opening of the Carlisle office.

There's been a decrease in response time and increase in the level of service we deliver to Naples residents," he explained. "Very rarely is customer service increased without increasing costs. It's a win-win for the North Naples Fire District and The Carlisle."

Aguilera urges residents to continue dialing 9-1-1 for emergencies and says nothing has changed about the first line of contact. The new partnership simply provides a more centralized location for his team to better respond to the emergency.

The North Naples Fire Control District is home to two senior living communities including The Carlisle and several apartment communities. Seniors, the heaviest users of emergency services, are pleased about the peace of mind the satellite office affords them.

"In emergency situations such as a stroke or cardiac arrest, timing is critical," said Marshall. "The faster help is received, the better the chance for a full recovery with no long-term effects."

Aguilera and Marshall strongly believe this prototype can easily be adapted by neighboring counties as well as throughout the U.S.

"It's a great concept. Naples is no different than the rest of the county. The same challenges exist: the request for more services with decreased revenues," said Aguilera. "Based on the success of the program, it may be the model for how we address other areas in the future."
