Jay s Moving and Storage Donates a Tractor to Buckland Fire & Rescue

Jay s Moving and Storage recently donated a tractor that was converted into a water tanker to Buckland Fire and Rescue, a volunteer group that offers fire protection in the Prince Albert area.

2012-09-27
REGINA, SK, September 27, 2012 (Press-News.org) Jay s is proud to announce the donation of a tractor to Buckland Fire and Rescue for the support of fire protection in the Prince Albert area. The tractor has been fitted with a water tank that will allow the fire service to provide better protection to residents of Prince Albert and in rural areas with no ready source of water for dousing fires.

Jay s Prince Albert Manager George Shand, who is also a Captain with Buckland Fire and Rescue, saw the need and asked owner Dennis Doehl if Jay s could help out. With characteristic generosity Dennis offered to turn over one of our big tractors to be fitted out with a tank and other gear.

Fire chief Jim Miller confirms that the truck is equipped with all the necessary apparatus to carry out its new job, "One of the things you have is the safety," he said. "So you have all the lights, and the light bars, and the sirens, P25 radio, and we have a compartment on it that has different pumps and (a) fire hose and things like that." Prince Albert Daily Herald.

The tanker truck has already been pressed into use several times, including at a substantial fire at a wrecking yard involving 50-60 cars. George Shand says, "The roof-mount guns on our large pumper trucks need a huge surplus of water, and this is the only truck really that we could supply that kind of quantity with. I' m so proud to work for a company that is willing to give back to our communities. The community of Buckland and its firefighters really appreciate Jay s donation."

Buckland Fire and Rescue is a volunteer organization with approximately 24 volunteer firefighters operating as a non-profit cooperative. Members pay once for a share, then a yearly fee for inclusion. Non members may also call for help in an emergency but are charged an hourly rate. Chief Miller estimates that around two thirds of Prince Albert residents are members.

Without this generous donation it is unlikely that Buckland Fire and Rescue could have afforded to purchase this truck. Dennis Doehl, owner of Jay s Moving and Storage is pleased to have the opportunity to support the safety of people in the city of Prince Albert and the surrounding area.

Jays Moving & Storage Ltd. began as a small family owned and operated trucking proprietorship in 1964. Back then, there were just a handful of employees and a small fleet of trucks. Under the leadership of our enterprising owner Dennis Doehl, we have grown into three key services: moving, freight and storage. Jays now has 11 full-service offices and warehouses with a staff of over 450 in Alberta and Saskatchewan. Our huge modern vehicle fleet includes over 600 trucks and trailers. We have become one of the largest household goods and freight transportation companies in Saskatchewan.
