SAN DIEGO, CA, September 30, 2012 (Press-News.org) In celebration of 27 years of service to San Diego and Southern California, The Lawton Group has partnered with Second Chance, a San Diego-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering people to change their lives through job readiness training programs and comprehensive wrap-around services. This month, The Lawton Group is launching a Doing Well By Doing Good donation program, benefiting the organization's JOLT youth Urban Garden initiative. As a way to celebrate success, the staffing and employment agency, formerly TLC Staffing, is giving back to the community through $100 donations to Second Chance's Urban Garden for any direct-hire or temporary-hire placement for the remainder of the calendar year.
The Doing Well By Doing Good campaign furthers The Lawton Group's commitment to giving back to the local community through rewarding employment, a mission that aligns directly with Second Chance. The firm continues to actively participate in Second Chance programming, offering mock interviews, and orientation and graduation contributions, while Founder and CEO Judy Lawton sits on the Second Chance Board of Directors.
Since its inception in 1993, Second Chance has graduated more than 5,000 individuals through its workforce training programs, supported by comprehensive wrap-around services that include job placement, housing, mental health and financial literacy, all focused on getting people off the streets and into employment. In 2009, Second Chance launched a new initiative to reach and serve the county's incarcerated and formerly incarcerated youth. JOLT: Juvenile Options for Lifelong Transitions provides intensive rehabilitation counseling and cognitive behavior training classes to youth ages 16 - 21.
Second Chance formerly incarcerated youth are currently involved in the Urban Garden initiative, transforming a blighted parking lot into a thriving and overflowing celestial garden. The project, combined with the group training courses, teach JOLT students social skills, stronger personal values and ways to manage anger and aggression.
"The Lawton Group cares deeply about helping kids and we're excited about helping this new Urban Garden program," said Founder and CEO Judy Lawton. "With Doing Well By Doing Good, employers will save on hiring costs and, through the donation we will make in their names, give a disadvantaged youth a chance to learn positive values and experience the self-esteem and dignity that emerge from a job well done."
