Apple Valley Dentist to Compete in Ironman World Championship

Dakota Dental's Apple Valley Dentist, Dr. Bennett Isabella, will be competing in the televised Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii, to be held October 13, 2012.

2012-10-03
APPLE VALLEY, MN, October 03, 2012 (Press-News.org) Dakota Dental's family dentist, Dr. Bennett Isabella, will soon be leaving Minnesota for a trip to Hawaii. However, he will not be going for vacation; rather, Dr. Isabella is going to compete in the prestigious Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii.

To be held October 13 this year, the annual televised competition is known for brutal conditions and a grueling three-part race. Competitors must first complete a 2.4-mile swim in open water, then move immediately to a wind-swept 112-mile bicycle ride, and end with a sweltering-hot 26.2-mile marathon.

Each year, 28 Ironman Triathlons are held throughout the world, allowing athletes the opportunity to qualify for the Ironman World Championships. Dr. Isabella qualified for the competition when he finished among the top three of his age bracket in the Florida Ironman Triathlon. His finishing time was 9 hours and 32 minutes.

Training for a triathlon, especially the Ironman World Championship, requires an intense regimen of preparation. "Obviously, training for these types of races takes a lot of time," said Dr. Isabella. "In addition to training 15-17 hours per week, I work to balance maintaining a family life, helping run a dental practice, and everything else in life."

Dr. Isabella's dedication to whole health is reflected in his approach to dental care. Encouraging optimal health for patients, Dr. Isabella and Dakota Dental President Dr. Shelley Wakefield strive to help their Dakota Dental family dentistry patients recognize how dental health can significantly influence overall physical health.
