PEMBROKE PINES, FL, October 05, 2012 (Press-News.org) CardioMender, MD Weight Loss Specialists, Miramar/Pembroke Pine's most trusted medically supervised weight loss program, is proud to welcome an expert in the treatment of diabetes to their weight loss team, Raffaella Poggioli, M.D.
An Endocrinologist, Dr. Poggioli was born in Italy and graduated from the University Of Bologna School Of Medicine in 1994. Her post graduate training was at a bariatric surgery clinic, where she developed an interest in the field of obesity and nutrition.
"According to the Miami-Dade County Health Council 8.7% of all Floridians have diabetes. It is the fifth deadliest disease in the United States, and since 1987 the death rate due to diabetes has increased by 45%. These are statistics I dealt with in practice during my decade as an Assistant Scientist at the University of Miami/Diabetes Research Institute, and personally due to a history of Type 2 diabetes in my family," said Dr. Poggioli, who emphasizes the importance of weight loss to prevent and regress diabetes, and strives to achieve this in the healthiest way possible, avoiding bariatric surgery whenever possible.
"If you're overweight and have Type 2 diabetes, dropping pounds lowers your blood sugar, improves your health, and helps you feel better - but before starting a weight loss plan, it's important to work closely with a doctor or diabetes educator - because your blood sugar, insulin, and medications all need special attention," she added.
CardioMender, MD's Medical Director, Dr. Barry Schiff, added, "Dr. Poggioli strongly believes in cognitive-behavioral modifications to aid individualized lifelong nutritional changes to empower patients to achieve a healthy lifestyle and quality of life. She strongly believes in prevention, above cure, for metabolic diseases such as obesity, insulin resistance, high blood pressure, hyperlipidemia (high cholesterol and triglycerides), and cardiovascular disease. It's in no small part what makes her a wonderful addition to our weight loss team."
In celebration of this newest addition to the CardioMender Weight Loss team, a one-day only open house is being held, on Saturday October 6th from 12:30pm to 3:30pm, at their Pembroke Pines offices.
Meet Dr. Poggioli and learn on October 6, 2012 at the CardioMender, MD Weight Loss Specialists open house at 17009 Pines Boulevard, Pembroke Pines, FL 33027 from 12:30 PM until 3:30 PM. Learn more about her unique approach to treating and supporting patients struggling with diabetes, sample healthy diet recipes, participate in prize drawings, and get free cholesterol screenings and $10 antioxidant scans.
