Confidex RFID Tag Family Expands Applications for IT & Enterprise Asset Tracking

Confidex, the leading supplier of specialty RFID tags, today announced the extension of its high-performance RFID tag family for IT & Enterprise Asset Tracking applications.

2012-10-13
TAMPERE, FINLAND, October 13, 2012 (Press-News.org) Confidex, the leading supplier of specialty RFID tags, today announced the extension of its high-performance RFID tag family for IT & Enterprise Asset Tracking applications. The offering includes the next generation of the Confidex Steelwave Micro RFID tag for source tagging and retrofit asset tracking applications. The new Steelwave Micro II is available in a wide variety of custom configurations so that it can be incorporated into almost any IT or non-IT high-value asset, and is now available in a Near Field Communication (NFC) version for asset management using mobile devices. The Confidex IT & Enterprise Asset tag portfolio is complemented by the industry's most versatile personalizing and encoding offering, available with all Confidex products.

Asset management often requires strict policies, disciplined operations and labor intensive inventory audits. RFID is helping many leading enterprises to streamline and even automate their daily asset management operations. In addition to tracking IT assets such as servers, computers or high-value prototypes, enterprises have expanded their RFID asset management systems to cover other, non-IT assets as well, such as high-value medical devices, lab equipment, manufacturing assets, and other equipment.

Confidex has been serving the RFID IT Asset Management industry with its on-metal tag portfolio including the widely adopted Confidex Steelwave Micro tag. To support an increasing range of IT Asset Management applications, Confidex has expanded its portfolio of IT & Enterprise Asset RFID tags to cover the needs of different IT & Enterprise assets' sizes and materials. In parallel to the portfolio expansion, Confidex has launched a new generation of its globally adopted Steelwave Micro tag. Confidex Steelwave Micro II serves an even broader use case base than its predecessor, and like other Confidex products, Steelwave Micro II is available with multiple personalization options to ease the tag commissioning process at the customer site.

Not only does the Confidex Steelwave Micro II set a new benchmark for UHF RFID performance to meet the needs of a variety of IT & Enterprise asset tracking applications, but it also enables Near Field Communication (NFC) asset identification using mobile, NFC-enabled devices. With this capability, customers can utilize mobile devices to scan tags and remotely access information related to the asset in the field.

"The new Confidex Steelwave Micro II combines high mechanical quality as well as solid and consistent RF performance, along with features requested by our customers," said Timo Lindström, Confidex CEO "Steelwave Micro II not only expands the Confidex brand, but also continues our tradition of providing value-added, customer-based tag design and configuration for asset tracking applications."

By working closely with customers, Confidex designs tags that can provide high performance in any asset configuration, either from the point of manufacture or in retrofit scenarios. "The Confidex IT & Enterprise Asset RFID tag family satisfies the requirements of fixed asset management, specifically, when tagging is done retroactively." continued Lindström. "In specific source tagging environments, when the RFID tag is attached during the manufacturing process, commonly available products may not always be optimally designed to provide the safety and compliance required by our customers. Therefore, Confidex works with major end customers to also design tags that specifically address their unique asset tracking requirements."

The Confidex RFID tag family for IT & Enterprise Asset Tracking will be showcased in Booth #10 at the RFID in High Tech event at the Crowne Plaza San Jose-Silicon Valley in Milpitas, Calif., on October 11-12, 2012.

Confidex is the world's leading supplier of high-performing contactless ticketing and RFID tag solutions and services to make supply chains, transactions and authentication of goods and people more efficient and secure. Today, we are innovating and exploring with our customers how our solutions can help people and companies address their problems and challenges by fusing a strong combination of RFID tag design competence, RF engineering and customization to manufacturing experience.
