Orlando Dragon Boat Festival Wins Sports Travel Award

The Walgreens Orlando International Dragon Boat Festival was honored with the Best Single Sport Event award at the Sports Travel Awards last Thursday.

2012-10-13
LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL, October 13, 2012 (Press-News.org) The Walgreens Orlando International Dragon Boat Festival was honored with the Best Single Sport Event award at the Sports Travel Awards last Thursday.

"It was a tremendous day for the festival and the sport of dragon boating as we were able to receive the award and highlighted the magic of the sport and positive impact on the community" said Chief Operating Officer Aaron Soroka, who was on hand to accept the award. "This is a great honor and recognition of the hard work and effort that the Orlando Health Foundation, Walgreens, ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex and GWN Dragon Boat puts into the event. But most importantly, it's a big win for the sport."

The event received recognition for its organization, attendance, and the experience provided for competitors and spectators. Started in 2008, the Walgreens Orlando International Dragon Boat Festival has doubled in size, both in competition and programming, and has received support from local organizations and businesses, including Orlando Health/MD Anderson Cancer Center Orlando, the event's charitable beneficiary. Collaborative efforts have resulted in continued growth through the annual festival and the sport of dragon boat racing.

The award was presented at the Sports Travel Awards luncheon on Thursday October 4th in Detroit, MI during the world's largest gathering of event organizers and travel planners from the Sports industry. The Sports Travel Award winners were nominated and voted by readers of Sports Travel magazine.

The Walgreens Orlando International Dragon Boat Festival takes place October 19th & 20th, 2012.
