OMAHA, NE, October 14, 2012 (Press-News.org) Mary Carrick has been making her mark on the cabaret scene across the Midwest with her rich, soaring vocals and gift for storytelling. She returns to the city she once called home, with "On My Way", her Chicago debut in the cabaret room at Davenport's Piano Bar and Cabaret, on Saturday, October 20, 2012 at 8 p.m.
Carrick performs with her pianist and music director, Todd Brooks, who also offers selected vocals throughout the evening. Together, the duo blends the fondly familiar and lesser known gems with quirky surprises including songs by William Finn, Amanda McBroom, Stephen Sondheim, Christine Lavin, Charles Aznavour, Fats Waller, Rusty Magee, Stephen Schwartz, and more. Their playlist takes the audience on an intimate journey about dreams, detours, and life's donut holes - nuggets that are just too good to pass up.
"When I first moved to Chicago, I was a twenty-something girl from the rural Midwest with big city dreams and a job on the Magnificent Mile. Now, some years and two kids later, music has brought me back. I'm looking forward to seeing old friends and making some new ones during my first show in the city I've loved since childhood."
Carrick and Brooks have been performing together since 2007 and are currently touring the Midwest region with several of their shows, including "Songs with a Twist of Lime" and "Love Notes". Based in Omaha, Nebraska, both are active with theatres and arts organizations throughout the Omaha metropolitan area, including Opera Omaha, the Omaha Symphony, Omaha Community Playhouse, and many others. Carrick also performs with the Rose Theatre, one of the largest professional children's theatres in the country.
The duo received the Outstanding Cabaret Award from the Omaha Theatre Arts Guild in 2008. Both have been recognized by the Theatre Arts Guild and Omaha Entertainment & Arts Awards with awards and nominations for their individual stage work. Brooks is an accomplished director, music director, and arranger.
Carrick is a student of singer, actress, and Tony Award-winner, Betty Buckley. She is also a member of Chicago Cabaret Professionals.
Reservations can be made by calling (773) 278-1830 or online at http://www.davenportspianobar.com. $15 cover, 2 drink minimum. Seating is limited and reservations are encouraged. Davenport's Piano & Cabaret Bar is located at 1383 N. Milwaukee Ave. in Chicago.
